Rumani's Lullaby to Ruchir

(goes like - Twinkle, twinkle little star !)

Great people came here all the time

O’ dear, they made the world a new one!

Galileo, Newton, Einstein

Darwin, Mendel, Crick, Watson!

Great people came here all the time

O’ dear, they made the world a new one!

Curie, Faraday, Tesla, Edison

Teresa and Hellen Keller were so known!

Great people came here all the time

O’ dear, they made the world a new one!

Ruchir's arrival

It was Friday afternoon in the last week of August, 2009, Laxmi started feeling something new. The due date was also closer, might be about a week. We were coming back from the Chandler open market at Worcester after buying some fresh peaches and plums. We stopped in a dental clinic at Chandler for a moment. This was the first time she was sure that the labour pain would start soon.
In fact, it started somewhat that night and the contractions became more and more severe from the early Saturday morning. Since our first baby was C-sectioned, she had not had experienced any contractions/ labour pain at the time of the first baby's birth. As we were in our home country at that time and all other family members were around, I was a kind of free or less engaged at that time. But now I was the only person to take care of her. I browsed information about the symptoms of labour pain and started timing the rate of contractions. It was occuring roughly every 10 minutes and the pain lasted for about 30-45 seconds. We waited until the evening of that day. At evening the pain became little harsh and we contacted to the doctor at Umass memorial campus, where she was visiting since last several months. The doctor said , " If the contraction rate increases so that they occur every 3-4 minutes, call me again !". The rate of contractions did not increase so much but the pain was really unbearable ! The night was passed in a tough situation. The next morning, we decided to call the doctor again and explained about the situation. The doctor told us to go to the hospital. We went there early morning of Sunday ! A nurse checked the cervical dilation and found that the dilation was not large enough for normal delivery. After an hour, the nurse again came and checked it for no positive result. Finally, they gave a sheet of paper with instructions and sent us back to our home !
Sunday was a really painful day for ever because of the worsening situation of the contractions. The rate did not improve much but the pain was really severe. The only option left was to wait for Monday afternoon when Laxmi had a regular appointment with her doctor. Each hour is like a month and the whole day was like a year ! Anyway, with the full sleepless night, there was a nice daybreak of Monday. We went to the hospital little earlier than the time of appointment. Unfortunately, we had to wait for an hour to see the doctor on that particular day, which never happened before. Finally the doctor examined her and referred to the maternity section for her admission !
Note: The posting is on progress !

Philosophy of Teaching !

Your job is to light a candle ! Because of its composition, it burns itself. If there is a wind, try to save it from the wind otherwise, it may be extinguished. If at anytime, it is extinguished, you need to light it again. You need to light a candle, if it is dark. There is not much importance of lighting a candle at daylight. Think twice if you are lighting a candle at daylight - it should be either some special occasion or something specific !

Remember all candles are not composed exactly the same way. Some of them have a different composition than that of the others although the chemicals are more or less the same. You may need to pay more effort to light some of the candles than the others.

Think seriously that teaching is analogous to lighting a candle !

A teacher !

A child has a brain with an infinite learning potential. What he learns, to what extent, to what strength and how fast depend upon what kind of environment does he pass through. A brain is like a clay, can be remoulded as you want. A student whom you are teaching , in genral, simply depends upon you. S/he follows what you say, sees what you show, hears what you tell and does what you tell to do. It is up to you whether you want to involve him/her at work or leave just giving a lecture. Your job as a teacher is to inspire him to learn and to involve him at work. At first, you need to be very clear what you are teaching so that your students can easily relate your teaching to their surroundings. They will enjoy learning and will never take it as a burden. Their tendency will naturally go towards learning if you make your teaching simple. A simple thing is beautiful. As John Keats says - a thing of beauty is joy for ever. Everybody loves beauty ! You can hardly find anybody who hates a beautiful wave created on a calm pond surface by a gentle wind. There is nothing more beautiful than a child in a swing oscillating at a small amplitude. You can watch it forever and learn a lot of things in there ! You can teach about it for a month. You can make your mathematics to explain it. What's not, there is a lot of thing in this simple phenomenon !
Let's go a little further. The child in a swing can not oscillate for ever. It will ultimately come to rest. Whatever you think may be ideal but there are a lot of things in the surroundings which go non-ideally. There are resistances, oppositions , drags, etc., which pump the energy out of the sytem. Once no energy is left behind, the swinging child comes to rest. That can be kept oscillating as long as you want ! Imagine that there is the mom of the child next to him/her and she pumps energy in a regular interval of time to the swinging child. That will bring the system always into motion with almost the same amplitude every time. But the mom has to be very careful in pumping energy into this system. If the mom pumps energy such a way that her timing matches with the timing of the swing itself, it may overshoot, which can be disastrous !
So teach a way that your students will feel that they are flowing naturally in their learning and they do not feel stressed. But, in the mean time, keep in mind that they are heading towards their goal too ! I think teaching will be a success at that moment !

Life is a struggle !

Charles Darwin gave the principle-struggle for existence ! This means that an organism will exist in nature if it can struggle with the environment. The nature will take it as the fittest to survive and will select to continue its generation. This is the Darwin's principle of the natural selection in brief.

Keep on struggling for making the world peaceful and prosperous and in favor of humanity !

The wolves

A Poem
(This is a poem based on a bed-time story that was told to us by our grandmother when we were kids )

The wolves look so honest
They look so gentle
They approach their preys
As if
They are their friends
They show a nearness
That way
They make their preys in trap
Ultimately
The preys are finished
Not knowing that the wolves are devouring them
The wolves are happy and satisfied !
This was a story my grandma told
Beware of the wolves or they may hold !

Cavorite - may dream come true !

Dr. Cavor discovered a new material called cavorite. He made a gondola out of it. He started making its sides and doors at first and made a little open door at the bottom of it. He sat in the gondola and closed the bottom of it with a plank of cavorite on one full moon night. To his surprise, he found that the gondola just rose and went to the air. Dr. Cavor was so excited to fly into the sky in the gondola of cavorite. He travelled several wonderful places in the space in his brand new space-flying machine. He gathered a lot of exciting , wide range of experiences in his visit. Somehow like this is the story in the Time Machine written by the great writer H.G. Wells. What happens here is that Dr. Cavor has found a material which does a gravitational shielding. When he makes the gondola out of cavorite and closes at the bottom by a plank of cavorite, he and his gondola are now shielded from the earth's gravity but since the upper part is facing towards the moon, he and his gondola are attracted by the moon's gravity and so he is able to fly in the space in his covorite gondola.

The lovely earth is being warm, inhuman and unfriendly day by day. There are hatred, arrogance, greed, jealousy and terrorism because of which the world is being terrible day by day. Some are getting a lot while others are dying. Some are fighting while others are laughing. Some are helping while others are snatching. Some are having some while others are having none. Some are relaxing at affluence while others are struggling for survival. This is a broad spectrum of the world today.

Now is the time to discover cavorite which shields the hatred and inhumanity and opens up love, peace and prosperity. Now is the time to discover cavorite which shields bribery and dishonesty and opens up honesty. Now is the time to discover cavorite which shields the killing and being killed by opening up friendliness among the mankind ! Now is the time to save the world for the generations and generations to come so that they will enjoy their life rahter than hate it. May this human dream come true !

Welcome to the Year 2009 !

The year of 2008 ended ! It passed along with a lot of ups and downs. The year of 2008 brought a Republican System in Nepal, dethroning the 240 years long monarchy. The USA got the first African-American president. The world saw a huge financial crunch.

Anyway the old year is gone !

Everything became one year older now. Let's hope things go better in the new year.

Welcome to the Year 2009 !
